Are you struggling with privacy at home? Meditate in the shower!
Do you need a tip on how to survive another quarantine with your family - meditate! Living in a small house with a lack of privacy and time may no longer be a challenge for you. Fortunately for us all, there is a part of home where you can get both - the shower.
People often claim they have no time or energy for meditation, but we must all do some hygiene every day. We can combine an act of hygiene and meditation whilst taking shower or bathing. When you close the door to the bathroom, your family will certainly leave you in peace and quiet for a while. Turn the water tap on and let the household sounds disappear. Hopefully, you won't hear quarrels of your children anymore and be able to focus just on yourself!
And how to meditate? Feel water with all your senses. Enjoy its streaks flowing through your fingers, hair and how it is touching the skin. Focus on the smell of water and scent of soap, listen to its rhythm, taste it. You will practice so-called mindfulness that teaches us to engage all our senses. And do not punish yourself if you catch your mind has drifted elsewhere. Stay calm and simply revert your focus to your previous thoughts again.
There is no written manual in place for you to follow when it comes to meditation in the shower or bath, and it is no rocket science either. Developing your own ritual is the best way forward. You would like to create the best experience possible for yourself during this precious time. You can run a hot bath, close your eyes and listen to your favourite music, or focus just on breathing whilst the water flows, the choice is entirely yours. The most common practice is the prime focus on your breath - its texture, flow, temperature and strength with the aim to stick to the plan 100%. Don't give up even if you feel like it. Keep bringing your thoughts to your breath over and over again.
These easy and short exercises will calm your mind and help you concentrate. You may even fall asleep faster in the evening and it is worth the try!
Are you ready to give it a go now? We are keen to hear your experiences about your meditation 🙂 And please don't drown.
